in-class experiments
Three class labs will
be devoted to in-class experiments using mobile phones, IPAQ pocket PC’s,
and GPS devices to research cell phone and wifi networks and geocaching
as a site specific installation. Students will break into teams and work
toward a series of quick projects that that illustrate their interests
and research. During class sessions, students will show their projects
to the rest of the class.
class presentation
Each student will be required to present the work of
an artist, artist group, or theme that is relevant to their final project.
Each student will have 10-15 minutes and should present with visual materials.
final project proposal
Each student, or collaborative,
will write a final project proposal for a site-specific work explaining
the conceptual context of their project, its relationship to the themes
of the class and a description of the final outcome of the project as an
installation, performance, etc.
review + final project
Students
may work on their own or collaboratively to create a site specific-work.
Final projects may be in any media and may include performance, installation,
visual media, etc. but are required to respond to the themes and methods
introduced in class.
class discussion of reading
Each student will be asked to lead the discussion
of assigned reading for several classes. In advance of the class session,
students are required to post several questions to the class blog and be
prepared to lead the discussion in class.
